In our continuing efforts to disseminate solar cooking technology effectively and within the economic reach of communities, Solar Household Energy is experimenting with local production of the HotPot reflector in Senegal. This summer in Mekhe, a community north of Dakar, metal workers took on the challenge of reproducing a working reflector. Using recycled printing press aluminum sheets and locally purchased rivets and hinges, the metal workers reproduced an aluminum reflector that folds and is almost as efficient as the original anodized aluminum reflector! This is a great step towards using local industry to make the HotPot more affordable in the communities where we work.
