Women’s Red Clay coop in Oaxaca receives 33 solar cookers

A women’s Red Clay Artisan Co-op received 33 solar cookers thanks to US-Oaxaca Rotary Club partnerships between August and December 2023: With funding from the US-based Cashmere Rotary Club, and solar cooker donations by Haines LLC, Lorena worked closely with the Guelaguetza Women’s Rotary Club in Oaxaca in a project to donate 40 Pop-Up Haines solar cookers to a co-op of artisans called Mujeres del Barro Rojo (Women of Red Clay) in the community of San Marcos Tlapazola. Four thematic workshops were held, with Guelaguetza Rotary Women assisting with training and logistics. The last 7 solar cookers will be donated to women showing high solar cooking usage and interest in teaching others to use them. Surveys will be applied in early 2024 to assess solar cooker adoption and impact.
